INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Washington Academy’s step into the 21st Century. As a school, we have always been committed to introducing and exposing our students to the latest technological equipment available to school and to businesses.
Having a basic understanding of technology is key in order to support success in the classroom and developing an advanced level of proficiency in business software applications is essential for success in the world outside of school.
In order to meet the demands on our students, Washington Academy provides a variety of technology tools students can interact with on a daily and weekly basis.
2012-2013 INTRODUCING: KINDLE FIRES
The Kindle Fires are the best available integrated technology in an educational environment. The "Fires" allow students to read digital e-books, mutli-media apps, and also research news, videos, and internet information. The "Fires" help students become exposed to the technology of the 21st Century.
Smart Boards: Each classroom has an interactive white board, which is wirelessly connected to the internet. Teachers have access to educationally appropriate material that is also aligned with State and National Standards in math, science, social studies and literacy.
COWS: The Computers on Wheels program provides a one-to-one initiative for students to work with individual laptops for a full 40 minute period several times a week.
Software Courses: Each student is exposed to business computer software, utilized in the 21st Century. Software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint are taught, in addition to introducing our younger students to typing skills and improving typing speed and accuracy in the upper elementary grades.
Video Production: Washington Academy offers students the opportunity to work with professional digital video cameras and computer based linear editing software.
iPads: Students also have the opportunity to work with an iPad to increase proficiency in subject areas and also to expose them to multi-media programs and apps. Students will also have the opportunity through the iPad program to be able to be exposed to new music applications.
Rosetta Stone: Web-based software to assist in the development of World Languages.
Reading/Literacy Programs: Web-based applications that help support students reading comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking skills.
