Students with special needs shall be provided with transportation in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:39-1 et seq. and in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Transportation is provided to each student by the local sending school district. It is considered a related service when students are placed out of district and is included in the IEP. There are no charges to the parent.
Washington Academy does not contract with the transportation providers, therefore any concerns or questions need to be directed to the resident public school district. The school bus, though, is an extension of our school and good conduct on the bus is considered important.
When each student is accepted at Washington Academy they are given a student calendar/ handbook, which outlines all the school rules and policies, including rules and guidelines for expected behavior on the bus.
If a student’s conduct and behavior on the bus continues to be inappropriate, the student may have accept appropriate consequences. If the behavior continues after that, a meeting may be called with the parent and/or child study team case manager to address the issue on the bus.
Morning arrival and afternoon dismissal are two critical times during the day. Conduct and appropriate behavior is expected of all of our students to ensure the health and safety of all students that ride the bus to and from school.
