In order for students to meet the challenges of the 21st Century, Washington Academy has developed a comprehensive transition program. Starting in the 7th Grade students will be assessed based on aptitudes, interests and skills. Each student will be interviewed to determine the appropriate individual plan.
Students in the transition program can take electives in business software applications, life skills, essentials of marketing, sports and entertainment, hospitality and tourism and fashion marketing.
Students that enter the high school at Washington Academy will again be assessed and an individual interview will take place to determine the appropriate course of study. Students will receive help registering for the SAT if they plan on applying to college. The transition program will also assist students in applying to a two-year college program or exploring other post-secondary opportunities such as internships and job placement.
Washington Academy’s transition program has been very successful at placing students in both college programs, technical schools, and jobs.
Over the last two academic years, all of our graduates were accepted into a community college, four year college or had a work opportunity lined up.
Some of our former students are now working at UPS, Verizon, Toys R Us, and Home Depot. Graduates have also attended Johnson and Wales, Montclair State University, Kean University, New Jersey City University, Lincoln Technical Institute, Essex County College, The County College of Morris and Bergen Community College.
