Washington Academy offers an Extended School Year (ESY) summer option for students enrolled during the regular academic calendar. Washington Academy’s ESY program runs from July through August.
We offer a full ESY program that goes into August because students that require ESY in their IEPs benefit more from the academic review and also the social skills training we provide during the summer months.
ESY is part academic and part social/emotional skills. Students work on individual skill building to prevent the academic regression that can occur over the summer.
During ESY, Washington Academy provides many opportunities for social interaction and skills techniques. Students over the summer can earn weekly field trip opportunities.
Trips have included movies, mini-golf, bowling, and an interactive video game truck.
The video game truck gives students the chance to play appropriate video games throughout the day in an air-conditioned trailer, equipped with four HD wide screen TVs and also two HD wide screen TVs on the outside to play interactive dance games.
