Introduction

For 28 years, Washington Academy has been serving pupils with special needs. New Jersey State-approved, Washington Academy provides a low student teacher ratio, a specialized curriculum, and a structured behavioral program to ensure the success of our pupils. Washington Academy focuses on motivating our students to learn by supporting and nurturing their self-esteem, academic progress and social skills. Positive behavioral supports are used to maximize student participation and academic growth.

The key components of Washington Academy’s program include:

  • A safe nurturing school environment with built in positive behavioral supports to maximize the pupil’s potential;

  • A flexible curriculum based on the pupil’s IEP and New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Standards designed to progress academically;

  • Small class sizes and a low student-to-faculty ratio;

  • Personalized, supportive instruction by caring teachers; and

  • Curricular and programmatic support to build self-esteem and encourage achievement.

In addition, Washington Academy offers a state of the art computer center, equipped with internet capabilities, digital video equipment and editing, digital photography, graphic arts, scanning and printing equipment. The technology curriculum is designed to teach pupils to use technology in their adult lives as well as exposing them to potential career opportunities.
